Ian Brewer is a BetaAngels Advisor based in New York City.
Ian is founder of award winning full service digital agency NoFormat in New York City. Over the past 12 years Ian and his team have created cutting edge digital products and brands for companies like Nike, Virgin, Samsung, Boeing Dreamliner, Acura, and range of start-ups such as Car Charger, Annalect, and Earth Awards. Prior to founding NoFormat, Ian worked as Art Director and Designer at R/GA and Razorfish.
Mads Rydahl is a BetaAngels Advisor based in Aarhus (DK).
Since the mid 90s Mads has managed software research and development teams and brought numerous products and consumer services to market. Mads co-founded Planet A/S and award-winning design studio in Denmark whose clients include Bang & Olufsen, Carlsberg and LEGO. He then went on to co-found and lead the technical development of Sublinks, an IP management and recommendation systems company acquired by Apple in 2011. Mads also spent a couple of years as concept developer at Stanford University where he developed a semantic web system that enables the extraction of knowledge and value from the historical archives of the Stanford University Libraries, helping the university capitalize on the ‘long tail of knowledge’ by democratizing access and pioneering interface design in the field of search and discovery.
As Senior Product Director of Siri, Mads’ team designed and developed all user-facing aspects of the product, from concept and early prototypes to a polished, robust and well tested product. Siri was sold to Apple three months after launch in 2010. In total, Mads has developed 9 patents that were purchased by Apple. Mads holds a master’s degree in political science from the University of Aarhus in Denmark.
Christian is a Partner of BetaAngels based in London. He has focused on building tech ventures since 2009, including as co-founder at Mindshapes (Children's EduTech), Keynoir board advisor (Daily Deals, sold to TimeOut), UNSILO board advisor (Search and Discovery), Caliber.io board member (Professional Networking), Game Analytics board member (Games Big Data Analytics) and board director at DogBuddy (Europe's largest market place for dog-sitters and dog-owners).
Earlier in his career Christian led consulting projects in the TMT sector (Dell, Nokia, Siemens, Fujitsu, Orange, TDC) and in Financial Services (VISA, Capital One, AXA, UBS, Lloyds TSB). Christian has served as SVP in WPP and a project manager at Prophet, CVA and PwC.

Roberto is a Partner of BetaAngels based in Madrid. Since 1995, he has focused on direct investment and company-building efforts, leading 20 investments (and overseeing many others) during this time. He has invested in companies and ventures based in the US, Europe, Israel and LatAm. Roberto is currently focused on supporting Corephotonics (Tel Aviv, board director) and Clover Food Lab (Boston, board member).
Roberto founded VC firm Adara Ventures Partners in 2002, made Adara’s first €55m investment vehicle operational in 2005, and served as managing partner until 2010. Between 1995 to 2002, he was Executive Director of BHI’s Latin America private equity initiative and championed Latin Rim VC investments. Roberto joined McKinsey’s Madrid office in 1985. In 1988 he was recruited to run Jumbo, a 35-store Spain retail operation, where he delivered significant sales and EBITDA gains, and proved instrumental to a highly successful exit with Pao de Açucar and Auchan.
Panama-born and raised, Roberto is a graduate of Dartmouth College (BA, Computer Science with Summa Cum Laude honors) and Harvard Business School (MBA). He has been a member of YPO/WPO since 1992 and been recognized as a Global Leader for Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum. He is a citizen of Panama and Spain, a proud father of 3 and does his best to maintain his golf handicap in the single-digit range.
Krishna is a BetaAngels Advisor based in San Francisco
Krishna is a Silicon Valley veteran and successful serial entrepreneur. His latest venture is Tynker, a startup that aims at helping kids of all ages learn to code and is already being used across 8,000 schools in America. Tynker is backed by NEA, 500Startups and Felicis Ventures.
Previously Krishna founded and ran Plusmo, a venture-backed mobile software startup that was acquired by AT&T in 2009. Krishna went on to become SVP and General Manager of AT&T's Interactive's Consumer Division where he was responsible for over $400m of online advertising revenue. Prior to Plusmo, Krishna was the CTO of Symbol’s Mobility Software Division, where he helped conceive the company’s Mobility Software Platform appliance and played a key role in growing the division’s revenue from zero to $10 million in just 18 months.This division was built based on technology developed by Covigo, Inc., a company Krishna co-founded that was acquired by Symbol Technologies in 2003.
Krishna has also worked at several successful startups, including Performance Awareness Corporation (now part of IBM) and Valicert (acquired by Tumbleweed). He has also co-authored two best-selling books on Linux programming, e-commerce, and java security. Krishna holds a B.S. degree in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology in Varanasi, India, an M.S. degree in Computer Science from West Virginia University, and attended Stanford University's Executive Program in 2011.
Anders Frostenson is a BetaAngels Advisor based in New York City.
Anders is Managing Director of Doberman New York, the award-winning design and innovation agency behind well-known brands including Google, Spree, MTA and Oscar. Prior to joining Doberman Anders held senior product and digital marketing roles in the wireless operator market with Hutchison Whampoa in London and Three. Anders holds a BA in History and Languages at Stockholm University.
James Duffett-Smith is a BetaAngels Advisor based in New York City.
James Duffett-Smith is head of licensing business affairs at Spotify, the digital music streaming service. James is responsible for licensing content for Spotify on a global basis. During his tenure, Spotify has grown from a small European company into the world's largest subscription music streaming service. Prior to joining Spotify James worked at MySpace as an in-house lawyer, and before that as a private practice transactional technology lawyer in London.
Based in New York, James is a qualified English solicitor and member of the Law Society of England and Wales. He holds a degree in English Literature from the University of London.
José-María Figuéres Olsen
José-María is Chairman of BetaAngels. After a successful business career (1979-1987), José-María served as Minister of State and was later elected President of Costa Rica (1994-1998) at the age of 39. As President he created a comprehensive national development strategy based on the tenets of sustainability: sound economics, investment in human development, and a strong alliance with nature. José María pioneered the linkage between sustainable development and technology, which he continued after government by helping create and then leading the United Nations ICT Task Force as its first Chairperson (1999). He was the first person to become CEO of the World Economic Forum (2003), where he strengthened global corporate ties to social and governmental sectors. Later he was named CEO of Concordia 21 (2006), dedicated to supporting organizations that promote development and democratic values around the world.
Figueres joined the Carbon War Room in 2009, currently serving as its President. The organization accelerates entrepreneurial solutions to achieve profitable, gigaton-scale reductions of carbon emissions. In 2013 José María helped launch and co-chairs the Global Ocean Commission to formulate politically and technically feasible recommendations that address critical issues facing the high seas. José María holds an Engineering Degree from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University.
Kamal is a BetaAngels Venture Partner and Investment Committee member based in New York City and Stockholm.
In addition to his work at BetaAngels, Kamal is CTO of Inversora Agroindustrial Global (IAG), a conglomerate focusing on the production and distribution of wine, fruits, nuts, olive oil, and other agricultural products. As CTO, he is responsible for online business growth across the group by driving IT efficiencies, defining overall online strategy of the Group, managing online monetization, driving online innovation and supporting the creation of new online products and businesses. Additionally, Kamal oversees IAG's technology investments. He is Chairman of Magine, as well as on the boards of HZO, Punch.in, Carteirra and VinoVisit.
He also serves on several advisory boards, including Stony Brook University's CEWIT (Center of Excellence in Wireless and Information Technology), IBM Cloud and Smarter Infrastructure Advisory Board, and Hewlett Packard's Print and Image Group.
Gil Gidron is a Madrid-based Partner at BetaAngels and an active angel investor. Until recently, Gil Gidron was senior partner at Accenture where he ran the Strategy Practice in EMEA and was founder and president of Accenture Israel. Currently he is the President of FEACO (European Federation of Management Consulting Associations). He is a member of the Spanish Business Round Table (Circulo de Empresarios), founder and president of the Spain-Israel Chamber of Commerce and founder member of the Civic Panel in Spain. Gil is also an active speaker at international forums, seminars and workshops, and he collaborates with different media on a regular basis. Gil has a B. Sc. in Industrial Engineering and a Master in Operation Research from Cornell University and a Master in Business Administration from the Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University.

Benjamin Faes, Managing Director, Customer Solutions and Innovation, Google
Benjamin joined Google in May 2008 and is the Managing Director of Customer Solutions and Innovation for Northern and Central Europe.
Benjamin started by launching YouTube in Europe, setting up dedicated teams across 17 countries and creating the value proposition for Online Video. In his role, he provides the Google sales team with a deep understanding of all products (Search, Display, Video, Social and Mobile) and creates bespoke customer propositions to suit the digital needs of clients. He also leads Google's effort in advertising platforms with his Doubleclick team which helps agencies and advertisers make the most out of the web through its unique technology stack, managing creatives, data, planning, buying and reporting in the same tool.
Previous to joining Google, Benjamin was Managing Director of AOL France where he transformed the company from its original ISP model into an online publisher and premium ad network.

Sophia is a BetaAngels Venture Partner based in Stockholm.
The global marketing director at digital music giant Spotify, Sophia started as the company's first marketer and over the past 7 years has built a world-class marketing team of 400.
She also serves on the boards of Norstedt and Unibet, and holds a master's degree in economics from Stockholm University as well as a degree in contemporary art from Baruch College (New York).
Andrew Wait is a BetaAngels Advisor based in San Francisco.
Andrew is Chief Revenue Officer (CRO) at Lynda.com - and until recently, President of EF Englishtown, the world’s largest online English school. Over the past 20 years Andrew has earned a reputation for being one of Silicon Valley’s masters of customer acquisition and revenue generation. Prior to joining EF, Andrew served as Chief Revenue Officer at Blurb where he led the company to robust growth after just a year. Before this Andrew served as General Manager - North America at Ancestry.com for almost five years. Here he managed a P&L of $220m and led the 70% revenue growth by 2009 by overhauling the product developing process and implementing one of the world’s most advanced customer acquisition programs of the time. Andrew then help lead the company to a successful IPO in 2009.
Prior to this Andrew held senior marketing positions with Kodak, Earthlink, Bank of America and Hilton Hotels. He is an active board advisor to KAPCO Aero and previously MOG (acquired by Beats by Dr Dre). As featured in Bloomberg, CNN, The Guardian, Wall Street Journal, and Wired, serial entrepreneur, Mattias has successfully created companies since the early 1990s in the areas of: content distribution; streaming; online gaming; social media; and computer technologies.
Prior to Magine, Mattias was Co-Founder and VP Operation and Production of Voddler Sweden (2008 –2010). The next generation video-on-demand (VOD) provider, Voddler, simplifies film viewing for consumers, while offering the best and most up-to-date movies and TV-series from around the world. Based in Stockholm, Voddler grew to over 1.2 million registered customers in Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland and Spain, before its international expansion. Between 2005-2009, he was CEO of Professional Entertainment AB, after co-founding the company. Professional Entertainment AB owned Hemmabiocenter.se, which was one of Scandinavia’s premier retailers for advanced home entertainment equipment. In 2005, he founded Scandinavian Cyber Events and presided over the company as CEO until 2007, bringing the World Cyber Games to Scandinavia, and created events with the likes of Samsung, Intel, AMD, Coca-Cola, and Shuttle.
Earlier still, in 2001, Mattias founded the Electronic Sports Network, with a focus on the development of social gaming platforms. The platform transformed into a framework for creating real time social platforms, and was used for Battlefield 3 - and was acquired by EA in 2012. He also created the Swedish E-Sport League, a gaming competition, which was first of its kind, with thousands of press articles written about it globally - and devised and launched Sogamed.com which was one of the first social media sites with a global reach. Morten E. Wulff is a Danish rainmaker, investor, and entrepreneur behind several successful media and internet companies built in Copenhagen including New Creations (aka Wulffmorgenthaler), TraceWorks, Wordy. Joel is a Partner of Draper Associates, a venture capital firm based in Menlo Park, CA. Prior to joining Draper Associates, Joel served as Technology Director for the United States Senate Commerce Committee, advising Senators on technology legislation and policy. Joel also co-founded an IT consulting startup, Iceware Technologies, where he specialized in wireless application infrastructure.

Ehud Levy is a General Partner with Canaan Partners Israel with approximately two decades of experience in the high-tech industry. He has vast knowledge and expertise in the areas of investment and finance, management and operations, and entrepreneurship. Ehud spent eights years as General Partner at Vertex Venture Capital, during which he served on the board of Waze for five years.
Prior to this, Ehud co-founded and was Chairman and CEO of Ki-Bi Mobile Technologies, the mass-market device specialist for mobile content distribution, where he led the business from concept to commercial success of about one million units sold, strong brand recognition, IPO in London, and its eventual takeover.
Ehud functioned as a director and partner at STI Ventures, a venture capital firm, where he led investments and worked closely with founders on appreciating value of companies. Earlier in his career, as COO and CFO of the telecommunications company, Telegate Ltd., Ehid played a major role in turning the company into a success story and was responsible for the implementation of an extensive restructuring plan which culminated in the acquisition of the company for over $400m by Terayon (TERN).
